K4- How to set Auto Power On

Overview:

Power-On Self-Start, also referred to as Auto Power On, denotes a feature present in industrial motherboards or computers wherein the system automatically powers up once the power supply is activated, initiating its operation.

Why do industrial motherboards or computers possess this feature?

This feature is particularly vital because industrial control motherboards or computers are commonly deployed in unmanned environments such as vending machines, express cabinets, advertising displays, production lines, processing equipment, traffic control systems, security surveillance, healthcare facilities, and banking equipment. In such settings, there's typically no dedicated personnel for maintenance or oversight of power switches. Often, these switches are solely employed for toggling equipment power on or off. Herein lies the advantage of the power-on self-start feature of industrial computers: upon power activation, the industrial control motherboard or computer autonomously detects the power supply, triggering automatic power-on and operation.

The power-on self-start function of industrial control motherboards or computers broadly falls into two categories:

a. Dedicated Circuit Board Design: This type of motherboard typically incorporates a dedicated 3-pin connector labeled as PWRON1. By default, a jumper cap is installed across pins 1 and 2. When these pins are shorted in the off state, the system remains powered off. However, upon moving the jumper cap to connect pins 2 and 3 in the open state, the system automatically powers on.

( Advantages of this method: Stable operation can be achieved by simply adjusting the jumper cap, independent of BIOS settings. This ensures uninterrupted operation even if BIOS settings are reset to default or the CMOS battery power is low.)

b. BIOS (CMOS) Configuration: This method involves accessing the BIOS settings to modify CMOS parameters.

( Advantages of this method: No need for machine disassembly; parameters can be directly modified within the BIOS settings.)
